Hey there!
Well, this is supposed to be my webpage. I had a webpage for several years, but for a while it got mixed up with my blog, and I prefer having them separated.
This webpage is hosted in my 16-year old Macintosh LCIII, which also hosts my virtual Mac museum. I ask you to be patient, as the site can take a while to load... :-)
Well, what can I say about me? (I hate this kind of talk, but sometimes I need to do it :P)
I am a 20-year old Portuguese guy, who happens to be studying Physics Engineering at University of Porto. As the course name implies, I like Physics and subjects related to it (Mathematics, Computer Science, ...).
From time to time, I like writing random stuff on my weblog, taking pictures (and you can check some of my best work at my Flickr webpage), roaming around with friends or just randomly surf the Internet. I do enjoy a good book from time to time, but lately I’ve been so short on time that my reading habits are postponed for the vacations...
I also collect old Macs (I prefer to call them “classics”!) and play simulation video games in my free time, such as Train Simulator, Rigs of Rods, Open TTD, Euro Truck Simulator, etc...
In my scarce free time, I also like listening to music - my iTunes library is dangerously approaching the 20 GB mark - but let my last.fm profile speak for itself about that matter...
On the matter of sports, I can say I'm not a good sportsman - actually, put me with a football and I'm totally lost ;-). Of course, I enjoy the occasional walk or bicycle ride... and I also like rowing and swimming (of course, those two only take place in the summer, and they're only for leisure purposes - I never reached any sort of competition!). This year, I decided to take the plunge and start taking rowing lessons in Sport Club do Porto. It has been a really nice experience, and a nice addition to my daily routine! :)
Like I earlier said, I like working with computers. I've got experience in working with all the major operating systems, either being Microsoft Windows or UNIX-based (or those who are neither of the above mentioned, like Palm OS or Mac OS pre-X). I'm no developer, though - I call myself a power-user-which-uses-Google-to-address-many-of-his-problems :-).
Continuing the geek talk, I have some programming skills. I speak fluent Python (or, at least, my fingers do), although, like I said - I am NO developer!
In addition to Python, I also learned how to program those Texas Instruments calculators during high school. I had some fun doing some neat little apps for it... it was really my first experience with programming.
I also learned how to use LaTeX (in fact, here in Porto we had a course on how to present scientific results, and we did learn some LaTeX!), given its importance in writing long Maths and Physics articles/reports/whatever
Wait a minute. Is this supposed to be my resumé? If it is, then refer to the next section, where I have a PDF file ready to download. Let's not talk professional... yet...
Ahem, let's cut to the chase. You can get a copy of my CV here.(updated as of August 25th, 2009.)
As for work experience, it's all in the CV. Of course, I can sum it up: worked part-time for almost a year in my college's computer center, giving support to students and keeping the computer labs running. After that, my former Statistics professor hired me to provide support on the usage of the R software for Biostatistics students. Right now, I applied to a research grant in INESC-Porto, on the Optoelectronics branch. Who knows what else the future will hold? :)
